A couple of weeks back Flipboard got its biggest update to date which gave its users the ability to create their own magazines. The social magazine app earlier today announced on its blog that since the update, users had created more than 500,000 magazines and 3 million new users had joined the Flipboard community bringing the total to 53 million.
Besides allowing users to create their own magazines, Flipboard also introduced a feature called ‘Flip it’, which is visible on most websites and allows users to add content like feature stories, audio, or video from a webpage to their magazines. Flipboard further states that post the update, nearly 50 percent of its entire user base has been reading their custom-made magazines on a daily basis.
Apart from renowned publishers who have since created digital publications for brands like Esquire, Rolling Stone and National Geographic among others, users too have created a large number of magazines on a variety of topics ranging from mobile apps, travel and startups to unique ones dedicated to Game of Thrones fans, Boston Red Sox and education.
