Hon Hai, the world’s largest contract manufacturer popularly known as Foxconn, has partnered with Mozilla to develop a new device running on the latter’s Firefox OS, Reuters reports. The Taiwanese company, along with Mozilla will unveil this new device at an event on June 3.
Hon Hai, known for manufacturing Apple’s iPhones and iPads as well as a host of devices for HP and Nokia has been looking to enter the retail sector for quite a while now and views Mozilla’s Firefox OS as the perfect market to tap into.
Though there is no mention of what kind of device we might get to see, a report on FocusTaiwan claims that this partnership is likely to develop the world’s first tablet running on the Firefox OS.
Mozilla has already partnered with the likes of Sprint, SingTel, LG and Huawei to develop devices running on its OS and back at the Mobile World Congress this year, unveiled the first two Firefox devices aimed at app developers. It was then in February, when the first commercial Firefox devices were unveiled by ZTE and Alcatel One Touch, called the ZTE Open and the Alcatel One Touch respectively.
