Samsung has confirmed it will launch the Galaxy Mega in India today, making it one of the first countries to get the supersized phablet. Samsung India confirmed the launch via Twitter.
The Galaxy Mega 5.8 features a 5.8-inch qHD display, a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB RAM along with 8-megapixel rear and 1.9-megapixel front cameras. It will be a dual-SIM device and will cater to the growing trend of bigger displays in smartphones. Samsung also has a larger Galaxy Mega 6.3 device in its roadmap but we are not sure whether it would launch it today alongside the Galaxy Mega 5.8.
Samsung’s Galaxy Mega series is a continuation of its Grand series, which has proven to be quite popular with its big but low-resolution displays as Samsung is able to price them lower as compared to its Galaxy S series of smartphones. Samsung hopes that potential buyers would not mind the specification compromises (in both display resolution and processor) in order to get a bigger display. We expect the Galaxy Mega 5.8 to be priced between Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000.
We will be on the ground covering the launch event. Stay tuned.
