Contrary to an earlier report, Bloomberg is reporting that Samsung’s smartwatch, called Galaxy Gear, won’t have a flexible display though engineers at Samsung are working on flexible displays. However, both reports confirm that Samsung would launch the Galaxy Gear at its press event in Berlin on September 4, two days before IFA.
According to Bloomberg‘s sources, the device will run on Android and it will be able to surf the web, make calls and check emails. However, we still believe the Galaxy Gear would be a companion device that will pair with a smartphone rather than being a stand-alone device capable of smartphone-like functions.
Samsung is also expected to launch two high-end devices before the end of the year, one of which, the Galaxy Note III will be launched at the same September 4 event. The world’s biggest smartphone vendor is also expected to launch a smartphone running on Tizen later this year but its launch timing is unknown.
