Microsoft Windows 8.1 could launch on October 17: Report

Microsoft has finalized the development of Windows 8.1 and is scheduled to release it on October 17 via the Windows Store according to the Verge. Previously, it was reported that Microsoft intended to ship the release to manufacturing (RTM) build of Windows 8.1 to its OEM partners by the end of August, and the new report confirms that Microsoft has finalised build 9600 for RTM.

On October 18, an array of new hardware products based on Windows 8.1 are expected to be launched by PC manufacturers. Traditionally, Microsoft releases a new build of Windows to its TechEd and MSDN partners soon after RTM, but this time around things could change as the build could be held back till October when the OS hits general availability.
