Nokia might launch the Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320 phablets on December 16 in India

image

Nokia seems to be launching its both phablets in India on December 16 as the company has started sending press invites for an event. Although there is no confirmation yet, but the word “BIG” written in bold suggests that the Finnish handset maker would launch its WP8 phablets on that day.

Both these phablets, Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320, were unveiled at the Nokia World 2013 in Abu Dhabi in October this year and are the company’s first devices to feature 6-inch displays. With bigger displays, both the phablets take advantage of a third new column of tiles on the homescreen and come in a variety of colors.

Nokia Normandy leaks online, reported to be the first Android device by Nokia

image

There were rumours, a long time ago, that Nokia is making an Android phone. It seems that the rumour is true.
The Verge cites sources familiar with Nokia’s plans as saying that the Finnish handset maker has been working on its first Android phone, codenamed Normandy, and that it is expected to be launched in 2014. Interestingly, the report reveals that Nokia, following the lead of Amazon, is working on a fully-tailored or forked version of Android, like the software on the online retail giant’s Kindle Fire tablet range.
The rumoured Nokia Normandy smartphone is said to be targeted at the low-cost segment as an Asha-equivalent smartphone, but with access to more traditional smartphone apps – a benefit that the report suggests has been missing in Nokia’s dated Series 40-based Asha phones. Further, the report describes the Nokia Normandy efforts as ‘full steam ahead’.
Unfortunately, there is no word on the innards of the alleged Nokia Normandy. Earlier, the serial phone tipster, @evleaks revealed the rumoured Nokia Normandy in a render, saying, “A real Asha. Or Lumia? The Nokia Normandy.”
Contradicting the rumours about a Nokia Android phone, Stephen Elop, the former CEO of Nokia had said in July that the company made the right decision by choosing Windows Phone over Android. As of now, there is no clarity whether the alleged Nokia Normandy Android phone is true or just a rumour.
It would be interesting to see if Nokia can release its rumoured Android phone ahead of the completion of the Microsoft deal.

LG G Flex officially unveiled, to be launched in February in India

image

LG today launched its first curved smartphone, the G Flex, in India at an event in Delhi. The smartphone will hit the shelves in February and will be priced somewhat around Rs 60,000-65,000.

The G FLex comes with an interesting design, which includes a flexible display and a self-healing rear panel. Features-wise, it has a 6-inch HD (720p) curved P-OLED display, which is surprisingly flexible. Under the hood runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.26GHz, which was earlier seen on the G2 as well.

The processor is supplemented by 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage but does not have a microSD card slot. The rear of the phone adorns a 13-megapixel camera with the rear-mounted control keys that were introduced with the LG G2 and a 3,500mAh battery. Connectivity options in the phone include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/AGPS, NFC and 3G HSPA+ network support.

Talking about the software, the phone will come with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which is disappointing considering Android 4.4 KitKat is already out of the gate. Hopefully, LG would probably release the phone with the latest version of Android by the time it launches in India.
