Nokia might launch the Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320 phablets on December 16 in India

image

Nokia seems to be launching its both phablets in India on December 16 as the company has started sending press invites for an event. Although there is no confirmation yet, but the word “BIG” written in bold suggests that the Finnish handset maker would launch its WP8 phablets on that day.

Both these phablets, Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320, were unveiled at the Nokia World 2013 in Abu Dhabi in October this year and are the company’s first devices to feature 6-inch displays. With bigger displays, both the phablets take advantage of a third new column of tiles on the homescreen and come in a variety of colors.

Nokia Normandy leaks online, reported to be the first Android device by Nokia

image

There were rumours, a long time ago, that Nokia is making an Android phone. It seems that the rumour is true.
The Verge cites sources familiar with Nokia’s plans as saying that the Finnish handset maker has been working on its first Android phone, codenamed Normandy, and that it is expected to be launched in 2014. Interestingly, the report reveals that Nokia, following the lead of Amazon, is working on a fully-tailored or forked version of Android, like the software on the online retail giant’s Kindle Fire tablet range.
The rumoured Nokia Normandy smartphone is said to be targeted at the low-cost segment as an Asha-equivalent smartphone, but with access to more traditional smartphone apps – a benefit that the report suggests has been missing in Nokia’s dated Series 40-based Asha phones. Further, the report describes the Nokia Normandy efforts as ‘full steam ahead’.
Unfortunately, there is no word on the innards of the alleged Nokia Normandy. Earlier, the serial phone tipster, @evleaks revealed the rumoured Nokia Normandy in a render, saying, “A real Asha. Or Lumia? The Nokia Normandy.”
Contradicting the rumours about a Nokia Android phone, Stephen Elop, the former CEO of Nokia had said in July that the company made the right decision by choosing Windows Phone over Android. As of now, there is no clarity whether the alleged Nokia Normandy Android phone is true or just a rumour.
It would be interesting to see if Nokia can release its rumoured Android phone ahead of the completion of the Microsoft deal.

Nokia Lumia 525 announced with 1GB RAM and removable back panels

image

Nokia has today finally announced the long rumoured, Lumia 525. Although the smartphone is similar in looks to its predecessor Lumia 520, some changes have been made to it internally.

Specs-wise, it comes with a 4-inch WVGA display with 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4  processor and 8GB of internal storage.
It sports the same 5-megapixel camera without flash and no front-facing camera. Instead of 512MB of RAM, this device packs a 1GB of RAM. It will ship in black, white, orange, and yellow colors with the optional to swap thanks to a removable shell. This device too runs on Windows Phone 8 but with the Lumia Black update.

Although there is no word on its launch date, but The Verge says it will come to Singapore on December 14th for $199 and so we can expect it India soon.

Nokia Illusionist, a Windows 8 RT tablet in the making

image

It has been a fortnight since Nokia announced its first Windows RT tablet, the Lumia 2520, there are already rumors about other tablets in the pipeline from the Finnish smartphone brand. But, leakster @evleaks has claimed that Nokia has another Windows RT tablet in the offing. Codenamed Illusionist, the tablet will sport an 8-inch display and will run on Windows RT.

An 8-inch tablet makes a lot of sense as the Lumia 2520 sports a bigger 10.1-inch display. This will not only offer a more portable form factor but would also give Nokia something to compete against Apple’s iPad mini and Google’s Nexus tablets. It would also become a more affordable tablet in Nokia’s product portfolio, helping it target markets for which the Lumia 2520 is too expensive.

There’s no word on the launch date but considering most announcements for this year are over, we would expect it to be unveiled at CES in January.
